Atherton Town - Charter Standard and Wigan Athletic Affiliation

This week has seen a great leap forwards for Atherton Town.  Firstly the club has now been awarded the coveted Charter Standard Status after the final FA checks were completed last Sunday resulting in a glowing report for the club.  This is a culmination of 2 and a half years hard work by our Junior Section Chairman Paul Shiels to pull all this together and attend numerous meetings to get this through.  To do this for a small club is one thing but to achieve this at Atherton Town where we have 20 teams and over 300 registered players is a staggering achievement.

This week also saw the announcement that Atherton Town Juniors are now affiliated to Wigan Athetic Football Club.  Again this is great news that we will be able to call upon coaching resources and expertese within Wigan Athletic which will benefit our players and coaches.  As with Charter Standard this has been managed by Paul and is a quite a coup for us to be adopted by a Premiership club.

These are the first steps in what is going to be an exciting period at Atherton Town.
